Phil, Andrew and Harvey all dropped crucial points and half points in their march towards the Allegro title on a night where there were only two 2-0 scorelines.

Garvin had the better of a draw in the first game with Andrew. In the second he fell victim to a skewer on two rooks by a bishop, but still hung around for about fifty moves in a tricky rook versus knight endgame.

Phil said that he wasnt playing well tonight, including the games that he won. However both Mark and Mick obviously played well to gain results from the reigning Flood Cup and one Hour champion.

Harvey dropped points to Ray and Peter. Peter had a good night gaining four points from six games.

Patrick Bruck (Archived ACF rating 1690 NSW) came again tonight and again impressed his opposition. He said hes not played competitively for ten years, however he did well against Harvey in slower games, then went 50/50 with Andrew in a series of about a dozen lightning games.

James Hiller advised via email on 30 September 2005 that he is withdrawing from the tournament.

Quote of the night

I think it might be best if you withdraw me from the Lighting tournament (sic) as establishing a social profile is important for me at the moment. Next year I will be 30 and I will probably have to settle down then. I hope to make some appearances though in the next few months... James (via email)
