One Hour tournament – Play-off

Results:

Phillip Kirkman 1 Andrew Robinson 0

Phillip Kirkman in One Hour champion after a win over Andrew in a close fought game. Showing no ill effects from his recent sojourn in the United States, Phil played an aggressive e4-f4 line against the Sicilian which resulted in him having advance d4-e5-f4 pawn formation. Andrew advanced the g pawn to aim for space and an attack kingside, but was thwarted by Phil’s dominance on the other side, and a bad knight that had nowhere to go. When Phil finally won the pawn on b7 the game was as good as over, and Phil cleaned up easily.

Congratulations to Phil who has now won the Flood Cup – One Hour double. He becomes the ninth different player to win the One Hour tournament in the past eleven years.

Quote of the night

“He parked there for one year and nothing happened. I parked there for one day and my car got towed!” – Marty, who was a naughty boy for just one day in his life and got caught!
