Report – 5 November 2004

Allegro tournament

Only six games were played tonight, but among them was the fixture that may decide the outcome of the tournament. In the final set of games for the night, George beat Tony in game one. In the second game Tony had a clear win, holding a K+Q v K+R advantage, but conceded a draw.

In an earlier game, Luthien won the first game and drew the second against Tony in an upset result that threw the tournament wide open. George has completed all of his games, so the winner will have to concede less than 5 points as George has conceded 4˝. This leaves Andrew, Tony and Harvey as the only players with a mathematical chance of beating George to first, although Harvey damaged his chances tonight by losing both games to Andrew.

Results:

Harvey 2 John 0

Luthien 1.5 Tony 0.5

Andrew 2 Harvey 0

Tony 2 Stuart W 0

John1 Luthien 1

George 1.5 Tony 0.5
